More ‘World Cup’ English vocabulary "Make the cut"

Yesterday we learned the meaning of qualify. Today I want to teach you an idiom with the same meaning. 
Please look at the following example:

A: “Will Canada be in the 2014 FIFA World Cup?”
B: “No. Canada didn’t make the cut again this year.”

Athletes train many hours a day so they can make the cut for the Olympics.
