The summer solstice is the longest day of the year. The day of the year with the most daylight (sunshine). When I first wrote this post, the sun rose at around 4:30 am and it didn’t set (go down) until 7:00 pm in Tokyo. That’s more than 14 hours of daylight!
In Tokyo the sun rose at around 4:30 am
In this sentence rose is the past tense of the verb rise. Do you know the difference between raise and rise? Click to review my blog post. RAISE or RISE? Transitive/Intransitive verbs

So if you live in the Northern half of the earth, June 21st is the longest day of the year. if you live in the Southern half of the earth June 21st is the shortest day.
